Sherpa Nomads Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek starts with an interesting scenic overland driving journey of six hours on Kathmandu / Tibet-China Highway for a while, and then on the winding uphill to Jiri passing the town of Charikot, finally reaching at Jiri known as little Switzerland, a nice pleasant town.
From here where the earlier original route to Everest region started, walk follows through enchanting forested and traditional villages of Solu area inhabited by Sherpa, Tamang and Rai tribes, leading past Shivalya, Bhandar, Sete, slowly as the walk progress crossing Lamjura pass with thick rhododendron woodland descending to Junbesi villages.
Journey continues crossing Takshindo pass towards Nunthala village to reach on the main trail, where the path from Lukla joins near Phakding and then after a week of good walk leading to the Sherpa capital at Namche Bazaar.
From this cross section adventure starts with a slow and gradual walk passing several nice villages of Phakding, Monjo, to reach at Namche Bazaar, headquarter of Khumbu area; here with time to acclimatize at 3,440 meters high and short scenic hike with first views of Mt. Everest and other fabulous snow capped peaks.
After Namche walk leads towards Khumbu high valley as the altitude picks up following the Dudh Kosi and Imjatse Rivers up to its source fed from the glaciers of Khumbu glaciers.
Walk is fascinating and enjoyable with stupendous scenery of arid landscapes and snow clad peaks reaching at Tengboche monastery surrounded with awesome green forest of rhododendron, pines, oaks, firs, pines and birch trees and chances of seeing some wildlife like Musk deer, Himalayan Thar and the colorful Impeyan pheasant, at Tengboche with superb vista of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and majestic Mt. Amadablam, from here leaving the tree lines behind for dry area with tremendous snow capped mountain scenery.

On reaching Kathmandu international airport, received by Sherpa Nomads staff and transfer to respective hotel in the hub of Kathmandu, and then briefing / orientation program regarding Kathmandu, and Everest trekking.
Morning after breakfast our city tour guide will take you on a half day tour at places of interest around interesting old temples, monasteries and palaces, Kathmandu is full of World Heritage Sites, afternoon free and preparation for Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek.
A long day journey, so starting early morning from Kathmandu for the drive to Jiri unto Shivalaya village, this interesting scenic drive passing through interesting towns and villages through Himalayan foothills, through towns of Dhulkhel, Chrikot and then to Jiri after few good stops drive continues on the winding dirt road to the first overnight stop at Shivalaya village a fair size village with number of lodges for travelers.
From Shivalaya walk to Bhandar a moderate trek, after a long day drive of previous day, morning starts with a an hour slow ascend to a small village of Sangbadanda, then on the gradual path passing rural farm villages and mixed forest, then reaching a stream with a climb through cool shade of rhododendron pine, oaks tree lines, after few hours of morning walk reaching at Deurali pass at 2, 715 meters, after a break here for lunch a long descend for nearly two hours to Bhandar village for overnight stop, walk passes an interesting large Stupa enclosed inside a wall and then through villages and farm-fields till Bhandar or Chyangma village, this area are of mix tribes of people Tamangs, Newars, but predominantly Sherpa people.
Morning walk continues with an downhill walk into cool shade of forest and farm terraces and passing several farm villages to reach at Kenja village at 1,634m, Kenja a nice moderate size village, situated in a warm valley just beneath the high hills of Lamjura and Pikey danda, offering views of Numbur peaks. After Kenja, a steep uphill climb all the way to overnight stop at Sete village from here onwards the temperature gets cooler.
Starting the trek with a cool morning then heading towards Lamjuta-la pass with a slow steep climb into dense forest of rhododendron, pines and oaks trees then through many small farm lands and hamlets, after few hours of steady uphill walk reaching at the top of Lamjura pass with a big stupa and lodges, from here a long descend through forest of firs and rhododendron trees all the way to Sherpa village at Toctoc, from here continue walk on the gradual winding path to Junbesi, from the ridge looking at Junbesi way below, then with a final descend to Junbesi, a nice large village inhabited mostly by Sherpa people, this village with a nice interesting monastery and a high school sponsored by Sir Edmund Hillary Trust.
After a wonderful time at Junbesi, morning walk leads on the winding smooth path with first glimpse of Mt. Everest with other snow capped mountains, after a break here head down to the river, after crossing the bridge with short climb to Ringmo village, stop here for lunch as time permits after leaving Ringmo, an hour of gradual slow climb into forest of pines and rhododendron trees then reaching at Trakshindu pass at 3,070m marked with mani and chortens with grand views of Numbur, Kusum Kangguru, Thamersarkhu and Kantega peaks. From here a long downhill walk to Nunthala through Takshindo village with an old monastery, continue descend through the forest and then reaching a farmland on the outskirt of the village, after reaching the bottom of Takshindo hill a short walk to Nuntahla also known as Manidingma, a large mid hill village of Rai tribe and Sherpa people.
The air gets much cooler as the walk leads closer to Khumbu area after being in the Solu region, morning walk starts with an downhill through forest area to the bridge over Dudh Kosi River, from here crossing the raging Dudh Kosi River, then leading on the slow winding uphill trail to Jubing village, around this area are warm with citric trees and plants, after Jubing following an uphill path to Kharikhola 2,200m, a large village with Sherpa and Magar inhabitants, after a break here heading towards next hill, after crossing a river tributaries of Kharikhola, then it leads to a steep climb for an hour to our overnight stop at Bupsa a small village, located on the ridge overlooking fabulous views of rolling hills and valleys.
From Bupsa a slow with steady walk reaching into Khumbu region as the air gets much cooler from here onwards, morning walk starting with an uphill climb through mixed alpine forest and some small wild and bird life, like pheasant, which is abundant along this area. Walk continues climbing over Kharte Dande pass at 3,880m high above the Dudh Kosi river, morning walk reaches at Puiyan village at 2,800m, a nice place in the middle of a forest. From Puiyan after lunch, walking on the winding trail, with view of Lukla town and its airstrip, from the ridge top, our route descend to Surkhe village for the overnight stop, Surkhe located just below Lukla.
Morning on the pleasant undulating trail near Lukla, at Choplung village where the trail from Lukla meets, after a time here for a while then start the walk to Phakding for overnight stop, the trek passes several villages and farm lands with great scenery of hills and valleys then finally reaching at Phakding village located by the Dudh Kosi (river)
Today’s morning walk leads to the bank of Dudh Koshi, then crossing bridges to reach the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After checking the Park & Trekking tickets and permits, further walk leads on the bank of the river, then after the last high bridge an uphill walk for few hours all the way to Namche Bazaar, here we will have two nights in this large prosperous trading town –village as well the main centre and capital of Khumbu area with facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with a busy colorful Saturday market.
Namche an ideal place for acclimatization, this rest day one can relax or take a short hike up to the park museum which houses great range of information from mountaineering, flora – fauna and Sherpa culture and religions, from this spot offers grand panorama of high snow capped mountains including Mt. Everest and stunning peak Ama Dablam, with time here an optional walk up to Everest View Hotel for another beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
After a good rest at Namche, morning walk starts along a gradual winding trail through conifer and rhododendron woodland, with the striking views of Ama Dablam, the walk further offers striking views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku and Kwangde peak, then the path descends towards Imjatse river at Phunge Tenga, after a rest here on the uphill path through a nice serene forest to reach at Thyangboche Monastery. A scenic spot with awesome views of Amadablam, Kangtenga, Thamserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest, this place is also a holy spot as the head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here. In this monastery, mountaineers take blessing from the high lama priest for better success and safe expedition.
Morning walk descends to Debuche through beautiful birch-rhododendron and pines forest, from here a nice pleasant walk and then the path leads crossing a bridge over Imja Khola. From here a gentle climb to reach Pangboche a Sherpa village with several houses made of stones with an old monastery and this is the last permanent village before Everest Base Camp, from here leaving the tree lines behind for short rhododendron and juniper bushes. The trail leads slowly through exposed landscapes with superb views of Mt. Ama Dablam at close range after a good walk of the day, then reaching at Dingboche for overnight stay.
Leaving Dingboche, following the path uphill for an hour then with a pleasant walk to place called Thugla ( Dugla) the midway spot, as the trail joins from Pheriche valley, Dingboche and Cholatse pass towards Everest Base Camp & Kalapthar, this place with stunning views of Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche, Pumori, Ama Dablam and as far to Mt. Makalu towards east and tips of Mt. Cho Oyu in the west, the climb up to the terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier, and continues till Lobuche our overnight stop spot.
The trail today is quite hard due to altitude gain with tremendous views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest world’s highest peak at 8,848 meters / 29,028 ft. After few hours of strenuous and scenic walk reaching at Gorakshep through moraine and icy path, Gorakshep houses 4 lodges, this place with the last lodge before Everest Base Camp, after a break here our journey continue to Everest Base Camp walking along then moraine with view of Khumbu Icefall and then reaching at Everest Base Camp our goal and destination of this adventurous memorable trek. After spending some time at the base camp, return journey back to Gorakshep for the overnight stop after fulfilling the high light of this trip.
Morning climb with a steep uphill to Kalapatthar for the most fantastic view of Mt. Everest with other surroundings peaks all the way to south eastern horizon. Kalapatthar at 5,545 m the scenic view top for entire south face of Mt. Everest and other high snow capped peaks, after a memorable moment here and the highest point of this awesome trek, spending some time here a steep downhill back to Gorakshep and continue the journey all the way to Thugla after Lobuche and finally towards Pheriche valley for the overnight stop. Pheriche a temporary settlement near to Dingboche with more than 20 lodges and teahouses with fabulous views of snow capped peaks of Taboche, Cholatse, Ama Dablam and as far to Mt. Cho-Oyu in the distance.
Leaving Pheriche with super views of Amadablam, Nuptse wall, Lhotse, then heading on the downhill path and back to lower altitude and tree lines, the walk leads past Pangboche and from the bridge an hour or more climb brings you back to the famed Tyangboche Monastery with amazing surrounding scenery.
Morning walk begins with a descend to Imjatse River at Phunge tenga, here after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then with gentle winding walk all the way to Namche Bazaar, ( for energetic people can use the route to Namche visiting Everest View Hotel or Khumjung and Khunde village) from Namche on the downhill path to Dudh Kosi River bank, from here with short ups and downs to reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then Monjo village for overnight stop in this quaint nice village.
After a memorable trip to Everest base camp, today the last day walk of this fascinating journey, from here retrace the trail back to Lukla on the gradual winding trail passing Phakding and Ghat village then with the last uphill climb to Lukla for lunch and overnight stop, evening time enjoy the last meal with fellow trekkers, staffs and porters.
Early morning depart for Kathmandu from Lukla in 35 minutes scenic sweeping flight, on reaching Kathmandu airport transfer to respective hotels, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.
Sherpa Nomads reserve this day as spare in Kathmandu, on account of flight delay and cancellation in Lukla due to unfavorable bad weather, if all goes well as per the itinerary one can book for another sightseeing tour or any trip for a day.
Your last day in Kathmandu as per your international flight time, our Sherpa Nomads staff will transfer you to airport for the flight homeward bound after a remarkable life time experience in the high Khumbu valley and Jiri to Everest Base Camp with excellent service of Sherpa Nomads.
